SOTU Reaction: AdvaMedDx Commends Genomics Project Looks Forward to Seeing Details

January 21, 2015

Andrew Fish, executive director of AdvaMedDx, issued the following statement today in response to a proposal to develop a large-scale genomics project, as referenced in last night’s State of the Union address by President Barack Obama:

“The field of genomics is changing the practice of medicine and is leading to insights in research and treatment that are revolutionizing health care. AdvaMedDx commends the administration for its focus on genomics, which will help to identify health risks, susceptibility to diseases, and guide treatment decisions. We look forward to seeing the details of the precision medicine proposal.

“Molecular diagnostics are a cornerstone of personalized medicine and diagnostic manufacturers are among those leading the genomics revolution. Our members appreciate the administration’s recognition of the vital role genomics play in advancing patient and public health, and we hope to have the opportunity to work with the administration, Congress, the NIH, FDA and other federal agencies on this important initiative.”
